SAM.gov Registration Guide -- Step-by-step walkthrough →

I've never written a federal grant before. Can GrantPro help me?

Yes! Our system guides you through every step of the process, from finding the right funding opportunity to completing and exporting your application. AI writing assistance helps you draft each section, and agency-specific templates ensure your application follows the correct format. No prior grant writing experience is required.

What do I need before I start?

Before applying for most federal grants, you will need:

  • SAM.gov registration - Required for all federal grants (allow 2-4 weeks). See our registration guide
  • UEI number - Unique Entity Identifier, obtained through SAM.gov
  • EIN - Employer Identification Number from the IRS
  • Organizational information - Mission statement, budget, key personnel details

You can start searching and exploring grants on GrantPro immediately while you gather these items.

How long does it take to write a grant with GrantPro?

Timeline depends on the grant complexity and how much organizational data you have ready. Typical estimates:

  • Simple grants (under $50K): 3-5 days
  • Standard competitive grants ($50K-$500K): 5-10 business days
  • Complex multi-year grants ($500K+): 2-4 weeks

Having your SAM.gov registration, budget, and organizational info ready before you start saves significant time.

What is a NOFO/FOA?

A Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO), also called a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA), is the official posting by a federal agency that describes a grant program. It includes eligibility requirements, application instructions, evaluation criteria, deadlines, and funding amounts. Think of it as the "job listing" for grant funding. GrantPro helps you find and respond to these opportunities.
